Focus and Scope
The Journal of Sustainable Engineering (JSE) welcomes original research, comprehensive reviews, and technical case studies across all engineering disciplines, provided the core focus of the manuscript is intrinsically linked to sustainability. The scope encompasses, but is strictly not limited to, the following core domains:
I. Civil, Structural, & Infrastructure Engineering
-
Sustainable Infrastructure: Design, construction, and maintenance of resilient, low-impact infrastructure and smart cities.
-
Green Building Technologies: Energy-efficient building design, sustainable construction materials, and passive climate control.
-
Transportation Engineering: Eco-friendly transit systems, electric vehicle infrastructure, and sustainable urban mobility.
II. Energy & Electrical Engineering
-
Renewable Energy Systems: Innovations in solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass energy generation and storage.
-
Smart Grids & Power Management: Energy transition technologies, grid optimization, and power electronics for sustainable systems.
-
Energy Efficiency: Advanced technologies for reducing energy consumption in industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.
III. Mechanical, Materials, & Manufacturing Engineering
-
Sustainable Manufacturing: Eco-design, green machining, and emission-reduction technologies in industrial production.
-
Circular Economy & Lifecycle Engineering: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), material recovery, recycling processes, and zero-waste engineering.
-
Advanced Sustainable Materials: Development of biodegradable, recyclable, or low-carbon-footprint engineering materials.
IV. Chemical & Environmental Engineering
-
Resource Recovery & Waste Management: Advanced wastewater treatment, solid waste valorization, and pollution remediation technologies.
-
Green Chemistry & Processes: Environmentally benign chemical synthesis, industrial ecology, and hazardous material reduction.
-
Water-Energy Nexus: Integrated approaches to sustainable water desalination, purification, and conservation.
V. Systems, Computing, & Interdisciplinary Engineering
-
Geospatial & Earth Observation for Sustainability: Application of remote sensing and GIS for monitoring environmental health, urban sprawl, and resource management.
-
AI & IoT for Sustainability: Utilization of machine learning, sensor networks, and big data to optimize resource usage and environmental monitoring.
-
Techno-Economic & Policy Analysis: Engineering assessments that integrate economic viability and environmental policy frameworks.
3. Types of Articles Accepted
-
Original Research Papers: Comprehensive investigations presenting novel engineering solutions, experimental data, or significant theoretical advancements.
-
Review Articles: Critical evaluations of current trends, technologies, and future directions within a specific area of sustainable engineering.
-
Industrial Case Studies: Detailed reports on the practical implementation, challenges, and outcomes of sustainable engineering projects in the real world.
-
Short Communications: Brief, timely reports highlighting breakthrough technologies or preliminary findings of high impact.
4. Out of Scope To maintain a high standard of focus, JSE will not consider manuscripts that lack a clear, quantifiable connection to sustainability. Purely theoretical engineering studies without an application to environmental, economic, or social sustainability, as well as policy or social science papers lacking a rigorous engineering or technological foundation, are outside the journal's mandate.
